What it is

Understanding deck refinishing

A pool deck is usually a concrete slab with a decorative topping—knockdown texture, a cool-deck coating, or pavers set over it. The slab lasts decades; the topping does not.

Refinishing removes or re-coats that top layer. It restores slip resistance, evens out patched or stained areas, and can noticeably lower surface temperature with a lighter color.

It is a renovation-scale change without demolition: as long as the slab underneath is sound, you get a new-looking deck without tearing out concrete.

Signs you need it

What homeowners notice

  • Rough, chalky concrete that is hard on bare feet
  • Faded, peeling or flaking coating
  • Surface that gets uncomfortably hot in afternoon sun
  • Rust, algae or chemical stains that no longer wash off
  • Patchwork from past repairs that makes the deck look mismatched
Our process

What Eden does

1

Slab assessment

We check for structural cracking, settling and moisture issues to confirm refinishing is the right call instead of replacement.

2

Cleaning and prep

The deck is pressure cleaned, failing coating is stripped, and cracks are routed and filled.

3

Finish selection

You pick a texture and color—smoother for lounging areas, more aggressive texture where slip resistance matters most

4

Application

Base coats and texture are applied in passes, keeping edges and the coping joint clean.

5

Seal and cure

A sealer is applied and the deck is left to cure before furniture and traffic return.

Good to know

Common questions

How long does it take?

Most decks are done in two to four days including cure time, weather permitting.

How long does it last?

A well-applied and sealed finish typically holds up 7-10 years in Florida sun with periodic re-sealing.

What affects the cost?

Square footage, how much old coating must be removed, crack repair, and the finish system you choose.
