Tile & Coping Replacement
Replacing the waterline tile and the cap of stone or pavers around the pool edge so the border looks sharp and sheds water the way it should.
Understanding tile & coping replacement
Waterline tile is the band that runs around the pool right at the water surface. It takes the worst of the scale, sunscreen and chemistry, which is why it is a wear item rather than a permanent finish.
Coping is the cap that sits on the pool’s bond beam—the edge you grab or sit on. It ties the deck to the shell and directs splash-out away from the pool structure.
Replacing both is the fastest way to change a pool’s whole character, and it is almost always done at the same time as resurfacing because the tile line and new finish meet at the same seam.
What homeowners notice
- Loose, hollow-sounding or missing tiles along the waterline
- Heavy calcium scale that no longer cleans off
- Cracked, chipped or lifting coping stones
- Open joints between coping and deck where water seeps in
- Dated tile color or pattern you no longer want to look at
What Eden does
Edge inspection
We check the bond beam, existing mortar bed and deck joint to see what is causing the failure before choosing materials.
Demolition
Old tile and coping are removed carefully so the shell and surrounding deck are not damaged.
Substrate repair
The bond beam is patched and leveled so new material sits flat and bonds properly.
Setting tile and coping
New coping is set and leveled first, then waterline tile is installed to a straight, consistent line.
Grout, seal and expansion joint
Joints are grouted, the deck expansion joint is re-caulked, and stone is sealed where the material calls for it.
Common questions
How long does it take?
Usually a few days on its own, and it folds into the schedule when done alongside a resurfacing.
How long does new tile last?
Quality waterline tile commonly lasts 10-20 years; coping stone lasts longer when joints are maintained.
What affects the cost?
Linear footage of the pool edge, tile and stone selection, and how much bond beam or deck repair is needed.

Deck Refinishing
Resurfacing the concrete around the pool with a cooler, textured finish that hides cracks and stops the slick, chalky look of aged decking.
Acid Washing
